Wildlife at Barred Owl Brook Farm
We are grateful and humbled to farm alongside a diverse population of wildlife. In addition to the resident barred owls who grace us with their distinct call year-round, we have observed bobcat, black bear, coyote, fisher, grey fox, deer, turkey, ruffed grouse, and a myriad of migratory birds including short-eared owls, woodcock, winged-warblers, broad-winged hawk, and many more. These denizens of Split Rock Mountain Wild Forest utilize the Split Rock Wildway which encompasses our farm.
We believe we have a responsibility to steward the land in a way that allows these wildlife to continue to thrive, and we take their wellbeing into account when making management decisions around the farm. After all, they were here first.
